Gout, “The Rich Man’s Disease”

Gout usually sneaks up suddenly and furiously, most likely at night while you are sleeping. You will suddenly experience intense joint pain, usually in the big toe. But, it can also be in any joint in the body such as the knees, wrists, fingers and other joints in the foot. The pain usually lasts 3 to 10 days with red, swollen and tender joints.
Elevated uric acid levels in the body are to blame. The following causes increased uric acid levels:
•alcohol - more than two drinks a day
•Being overweight
•Diabetes
•Narrowing of the arteries (arteriosclerosis)
•High blood pressure drugs
•Low-dose aspirin
•Genetics - people with gout have a family history of gout
•Exposure to lead
Black Cherry Extract and Black Cherry Juice - cherries contain anthocyanins which reduce inflammation and uric acid levels in your blood. Cherry extract should always be taken to prevent recurring attacks of gout
Omega-3 Fatty Acids – helps with inflammation.
Apple Cider Vinegar- One tablespoon of organic raw apple cider vinegar in a glass of water twice a day. This creates a more alkaline environment.
Vitamin A- reduces uric acid buildup and is good for kidney health.
Devil's Claw and Boswellia - powerful natural anti-inflammatories.
Celery Seeds - reduces uric acid.
Berries - eat strawberries, blueberries, goji berries.
Castor Oil Pack - Soak a piece of white flannel in warm castor oil, wring out excess and place over the affected area. Cover it with plastic wrap and apply heat using a heating pad or hot water bottle. Do this twice a day for an hour.
The reason Gout is called the rich mans’ disease is due to a diet high in alcohol, meats and rich foods. To prevent gout have a healthy diet rich in raw fruits and vegetables. Stop eating packaged, processed, deep fried and fast foods and don't drink too much coffee or alcohol.
